A loopback IP address is a special address that allows a computer to send data to itself, essentially creating a virtual network interface within the device
To create a network loopback with a specific IP address (e.g., 100.5.83.5), you’re essentially assigning a static IP to a virtual network interface (loopback-style) that routes only within the local machine.
Install Microsoft Loopback Adapter:
- Press
Win + R, type:hdwwiz, press Enter. - Click Next > choose Install hardware manually > Network adapters > Click Next.
- Choose Microsoft > Microsoft KM-TEST Loopback Adapter.
- Finish the wizard. A new virtual adapter will be added.
Assign Static IP to the Loopback Adapter:
- Go to
Control Panel>Network and Sharing Center>Change adapter settings. - Right-click the Loopback Adapter >
Properties>Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)>Properties. - Set:
- IP Address:
100.5.83.5 - Subnet:
255.255.255.0 - Leave gateway and DNS blank (unless needed).
- IP Address:
Verify:
ping 100.5.83.5
It should respond immediately, indicating it’s reachable locally.
