As I am working for the proof-of-concept for PIDS solution, I came across a situation where TeamViewer is not an option especially for unattended access cross platforms. I am glad to found RustDesk, a perfect alternate option for my project.
Pros:
- Free/Open Source (AGPL) alternative to TeamViewer
- You can run it completely locally (self-host your “relay/rendezvous” or do direct LAN mode)
- Unattended access without requiring user on-panel to “accept”
- Supports file transfer, clipboard sync, remote keyboard/mouse, multiple monitors
Cons:
- Requires installing the RustDesk Host APK on each panel
- For best security you should self-host the server component
RustDesk do work flawlessly, a great innovation from the team where they know what it feels to be an IT Support on how sometimes it hard to manage an organization where they need to do remote access constantly with the team members. Highly recommend it since it is an open source project.
